ABOUT US

The Kelsey House Bed & Breakfast is a Victorian summer home built in the 1880’s by local entrepreneur Edwin R. Kelsey, for his family’s summer guests from the city.

The Kelsey House is located in the shore village of Short Beach in Branford, Connecticut, over looking Short Beach Bay and Kelsey Island.  This area has long been home to the Kelsey family, with their on going boat building business next door to the B&B which has been in business since the 1930’s.  In earlier history, Kelsey Island across the small bay originally saw many schooners docking there with their loads of fish from the 1860’s to the 1910’s.  Some of the original buildings from this family business are still in existence today and in use on the island as summer cottages.

Your Innkeepers are the current owner, Susan Kelsey, who is the great granddaughter of the original owner/builder and grew up in the house, and husband, Ken Olson. “We have always loved staying in Inns and B&B’s while traveling and have dreamed of some day opening our own in this house.  We have loved entertaining our family and friends here for years so when our two boys left the nest we decided it was time.”

- Susan Kelsey, Innkeeper
